We received a copy of the book The League and The Lantern by Brian Wells. My daughter read the book and this is her review.
You would think Jake Herndon was an ordinary boy. But his sort of ordinary life ends one night during a “back – to –school” sleepover at a museum. It all starts when he plays “time to be a man” and he is late for the back to school sleepover at the Museum of Science and Industry. Here he meets T.J. McDonald and Lucy Garcia (a girl that moved from Nepal to the States that speaks English) and the three don’t really become friends at first.
Later, after they start a scavenger hunt, when Jake is in the mine shaft under the museum looking for clues, he notices that there is something wrong. The tiny light that lights up the mine shaft starts quivering; he hears someone coming and then WHAM! Blackout. A short while after Jake, T.J., and Lucy go on a wild adventure learning about each other, Jake’s mysterious family history, and facts about history itself.
It’s this reviewers opinion that if you liked Percy Jackson, Heroes of Olympus, and other titles by Rick Riordan, yet you are looking for something that is a little more fact than fantasy, I definitely suggest this book. Rick Riordan has been my favorite author for years, but look out Percy Jackson fans. A new best-selling author is rising to the top, and you will love Brian Wells new book series, The League and the Lantern!
